Coronation Grape Juice

This thick, velvety nectar is a far cry from the grape juice you find on store shelves. Simple and pure, it captures the full essence of freshly pressed grapes, delivering a naturally sweet, full-bodied flavour. Best of all, there's no juicer required—just a few easy steps to a refreshingly delicious homemade treat!

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups Coronation grapes (fresh, stemmed and washed)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup sugar (optional, depending on the sweetness of the grapes)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (optional, to add a bit of brightness)

Instructions:

  1. Wash the Coronation grapes thoroughly and remove them from their stems.
  2. In a large saucepan, add the grapes and water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Let the grapes cook for about 10-15 minutes, or until they start to break down and release their juices.
  3. Once the grapes have softened, use a potato masher or spoon to gently mash them, releasing more juice. Then, strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a large bowl or pitcher, pressing out as much juice as possible.
  4. If you like your juice sweeter, stir in the sugar while the juice is still warm. You can also add lemon juice at this stage to balance the flavour.
  5. Let the juice cool to room temperature, then refrigerate. Serve chilled over ice!

Tip: dilute with water if you prefer a lighter juice!
