This thick, velvety nectar is a far cry from the grape juice you find on store shelves. Simple and pure, it captures the full essence of freshly pressed grapes, delivering a naturally sweet, full-bodied flavour. Best of all, there's no juicer required—just a few easy steps to a refreshingly delicious homemade treat!
Ingredients:
- 4 cups Coronation grapes (fresh, stemmed and washed)
- 2 cups water
- 1/4 cup sugar (optional, depending on the sweetness of the grapes)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice (optional, to add a bit of brightness)
Instructions:
- Wash the Coronation grapes thoroughly and remove them from their stems.
- In a large saucepan, add the grapes and water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Let the grapes cook for about 10-15 minutes, or until they start to break down and release their juices.
- Once the grapes have softened, use a potato masher or spoon to gently mash them, releasing more juice. Then, strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a large bowl or pitcher, pressing out as much juice as possible.
- If you like your juice sweeter, stir in the sugar while the juice is still warm. You can also add lemon juice at this stage to balance the flavour.
- Let the juice cool to room temperature, then refrigerate. Serve chilled over ice!
Tip: dilute with water if you prefer a lighter juice!
