The glow of dried oranges strung across a mantle or tree is a cozy holiday classic. Their warm colour, subtle citrus scent, and simple rustic beauty make them a holiday staple that's just so chic. Easy to make, and surprisingly durable, it's a fun weekend project to be enjoyed by all!
Ingredients:
- 2-5 navel oranges
- Sharp knife
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper
- Cooling rack
- Twine, String or Ribbon
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (a low temp prevents browning and helps the slices dry evenly)
- Slice the oranges into 1/4-inch rounds. Try to keep them consistent in thickness so they have similar drying time.
- Pat dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
- Lay slices on a parchment lined baking sheet, or preferably on a baking sheet to allow full airflow.
- Bake for 3-4 hours flipping every 45-60 minutes. They're done when the rinds feel firm and the citrus is no longer wet or sticky.
- Cool completely, then use a need to thread the string of choice through each slice.
- Hang and enjoy! These will last all season if kept dry.
Tip: Add cranberries for a pop of colour!
