Supplier Information
Joe da Costa emigrated from Portugal to Oliver, B.C., in 1955 to work in the South Okanagan’s fruit industry. After arriving by ship and train, he worked hard in various orchards, eventually saving enough money to buy his own. With a goal of owning an orchard, Joe worked multiple jobs in construction and for other farmers before finding work in a mine in Alaska, where he saved enough to return to Oliver in 1958. Later that year, he married Maria, and together they bought their first orchard in 1962. Over the years, they expanded their holdings, making Orchard Grove Lane and Black Sage Road their forever home. Even after retiring in the late 1990s, Joe remained deeply involved in the orchards, continuing to work with a passion well into his 90s, knowing every tree on both properties.
