This will soon become your favourite tofu recipe! This crispy baked tofu is great for adding to salads, stir-frys, bowls, and even for eating on it's own with a bit of dipping sauce. Make sure to use firm tofu, as it will have the best texture.
Ingredients:
- 1 block pressed tofu
- 1 tbsp soy sauce or tamari
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil (or olive oil)
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Press the Tofu: Place tofu between clean towels or paper towels. Set a cutting board on top, and weigh it down with a heavy object (e.g., a skillet) for 15–20 minutes to remove excess moisture.
- Prep the Tofu: Preheat your oven to 400°F. Cut the pressed tofu into cubes or slabs, depending on your preference.
- Season and Coat: In a bowl, mix soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Add tofu to the bowl and gently toss to coat. Sprinkle cornstarch over the tofu, tossing again to create a light coating.
- Bake: Arrange the tofu pieces on a parchment-lined baking sheet in a single layer, ensuring they don’t touch. Bake for 20 minutes, flip the pieces, and bake for another 15–20 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- Serve and Enjoy: Let the tofu cool for a few minutes before serving to maximize crispiness. Use as a protein topping for grain bowls, salads, or stir-fries, or enjoy as a snack with dipping sauce!
Tips: For extra crunch, increase the oven temperature slightly in the last 5 minutes of baking. Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the oven to maintain crispiness.
