Crisp? Crumble? No matter the name, this delicious apple dessert is made with organic oats, salted butter, and a hint of maple syrup or cane sugar, creating a rich, golden topping that’s irresistibly crisp. For those looking for a gluten-free option, simply swap the flour for gluten-free flour blend, and you’ll have a dessert that everyone can enjoy.

Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a drizzle of extra maple syrup, or just as is—it’s cozy, rustic, and perfect for sharing.

Ingredients

For the apple filling:

  • 6 medium apples (Honeycrisp, or your favourite), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • ¼ cup cane sugar or maple syrup (adjust based on sweetness preference)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour blend)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

For the crumble topping:

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease an 8x8-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare the apples: In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with cane sugar (or maple syrup), cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, flour, and lemon juice. Spread evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Make the crumble topping: In a separate bowl, mix oats, flour, cane sugar (or maple syrup), melted butter, and cinnamon until combined and crumbly.
  4. Assemble & bake: Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the apples. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are soft and bubbling.
  5. Cool slightly & serve: Let sit for 5-10 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a drizzle of maple syrup!
