Behind the Scenes at TUCG

Ever wonder what happens after you place your order? We're pulling back the curtain to show you the magic of how TUCG operates every week to bring fresh, local goods to your table.

Thursday & Friday: Sourcing Local Goodies
We connect with our 30-40 BC suppliers to find out what's fresh and available. Then, we update our website with new products and send the crop list to local restaurants. Everything’s ready for our 6 PM launch!

Weekend: Your Orders Set the Stage
Over the weekend, you place your orders, and we plan accordingly! We only order what you select (with a little extra for door sales and donations) — helping to reduce food waste with perishables like produce.

Monday: Donations and Finalized Orders
Remaining perishables from the previous week are packed and donated to local programs like Hospice, school food programs, and the Ucluelet Food Bank. We confirm last-minute availability with our suppliers for the current week and make adjustments on the website (Pro tip: place a second order Monday afternoon as sometimes our farmers have extra just for us!). Our commercial sales reps Rob and Casey take orders from restaurants and grocers by email and phone. Chelsea amalgamates all the orders and works into the evening to place orders with suppliers.

Tuesday: Farmers & Suppliers Pack & Prep
Farmers and suppliers across the island and mainland pack up orders for shipment to Tofino. At our warehouse, we organize the space, print inventory lists, and prepare for incoming deliveries.

Wednesday: Receiving Day
Our team of 10-15 unload deliveries, sorts items, and preps orders for restaurants. After unloading, we break down cases sizes into the smaller portions available on the website — counting, weighing, and adjusting orders along the way.

Thursday: Packing & Pick Up Day for Tofino
One of our delivery drivers heads to Ucluelet to deliver commercial orders. We pack 150-200 member orders, keeping everything fresh in our refrigerated truck for pickup. After the last pickup at 7 PM, it’s lights out at TUCG!

Friday: Tofino & Ucluelet Orders
We pack up 100-150 Ucluelet orders and send them off. After sending off the Ukee pickup crew, we finish packing Tofino’s orders and then deep-clean the warehouse. The final step is counting the inventory that's left.

We hope this gives you a glimpse into the love, care, and effort that goes into every order!
